Hospital System in Metro Maine has an exciting physician leadership opportunity for a Board Certified/Board Eligible MD/DO Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Physician to lead their primary care network of one internal medicine and four family medicine practices. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a group of well-established, quality driven, outpatient practices serving a Metro Maine service area. Their team of physicians and PA/NP providers are committed to providing excellent medical care, exceptional service and a satisfying relationship between patient and provider. They do this by blending the latest technology with old-fashioned care and customer service. Skilled office staff and providers work as integrated care teams to provide their patients with a full spectrum of family care. This role will be 80% administrative and 20% clinical practice.

The Physician Director of Primary Care will collaborate with the Practice Director for Primary Care to form a dyad partnership in leading their primary care team, as well as provide peripheral oversight for Walk In Care and university health center locations. The Physician Director of Primary Care will have clinical, operational, financial and strategic duties. 

Clinical: The Physician Director is responsible for the clinical operational activities and functions within the practices, including quality improvement, patient safety and creating a culture of effectiveness and accountability. 

Operational: The Physician Director will collaborative with practice managers on practice operations including managing patient concerns and provider behavior issues. The Physician Director will also evaluate the performance of, and provide direction to, clinical staff and actively participate in the provider recruitment and retention process. 

Financial: The Physician Director will actively participate in the budgeting process, understand provider productivity measures, and ensure cost-effective use of clinical resources. 

Strategic: The Physician Director will establish long-range practice objectives, including identifying opportunities for improving service offerings and developing provider and practice workforce plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Board certified M.D. or D.O. with demonstrated capabilities in a medical specialty and/or sub-specialty.
At least 3-5 years medical specialty and/or sub-specialty experience.
Prefer 3 or more years of management experience, ideally in a tertiary care medical center or integrated health system. 
Successfully completed or commitment to complete Leadership training within two years. Leadership Certificate preferable (American Association of Physician Leadership, Hanley, American College of Healthcare Executives). Other relevant training or experience to be considered.
Well respected clinician with demonstrated leadership, facilitation, communication and collaboration skills. 

Demonstrated interest and aptitude for the business of medicine – both analytical and financial skills.
